OUR BIGGEST BACKYARD ULTRA YET.
Welcome to The Final Yard, our biggest backyard ultra yet, set in the grounds of Burghley House, a vast Elizabethan estate begun in 1555. Every hour on the hour, on the line for another 4.167-mile loop. Finish it in time and you're back for the next. Fail to start, or fail to finish, and your race is over. Only one runner gets to complete the final yard.
THE FINAL YARD
THE DETAILS
5TH JUNE 2027
Burghley House, Peterborough, Stamford PE9 3JY
THE VENUE
Burghley House has stood in its grounds since the 16th century, and inside it has one of the most dramatic sights in English country houses: the Hell Staircase, a vast painted ceiling in which you climb up through the depths of hell. We're leaning right into it. Expect dark skies, a gothic setting, and a race that will test everything you've got.
WHAT IS A BACKYARD ULTRA?
A backyard ultra is a last-one-standing race. Every hour, everyone starts a 4.167-mile (6.7km) loop, and you've got until the next hour to finish it and be back at the start line. The more of the hour you have left, the more time you have to refuel, change socks etc. There is no finish line, and the race ends only when one runner completes a yard that nobody else can. It's simple, brutal, and weirdly addictive.
